Korinthians versus ladies

Last night the Korinthians marked the end of their season with the annual match against the L2s (although there appeared to be quite a few players who resembled Ladies 1s players involved!)

As ever, the Korinthian spirit was nowhere to be seen, and it was another hard-fought encounter with the Ladies losing out to a last minute deflected goal from the "oldest swinger", Lesley. Final score 4-3, with consolation prizes downed in the Muirs afterwards.

Roll on next season!

Drag night

Lots of fun down at KAS tonight, as we welcomed Scotland international player Gavin Byers, who was running a drag flicking workshop for a select bunch of players from around the club. The weather was rotten (almost as bad as my photography), but it's fair to say that a good time was had by all. Alex MacKinnon was the star of the show, pinging the ball into the top corner with gay abandon.

Long-duhration walkies

Congratulation and thanks to last year's club president, Gurdi Duhre, who walked the West Highland Way a few weeks back and has used some of the proceeds to subsidise all those lovely Kinross Hockey Club stick bags that arrived a few weeks back.

Potty in pink

While it may have looked like a dangerous band of escaped lunatics, yesterday's invasion of the KAS pitch was in fact the participants in the annual Playing in Pink tournament, the annual fancy dress bash at which ladies teams from all over the place compete to outdress, outplay and ultimately outdrink each other, all in aid of charity.

They made quite a sight...

For the record, Kinross Pink were the winners and a good time was had by all.

Dev squad debuts

Sunday saw the first outing of our girls development squad - a close encounter with Grove Menzieshill on a sweltering afternoon at KAS. Huge fun was had and honours were even, as Kinross corrected a two-goal deficit at half-time to end it 2-2.

A great learning experience for everyone and a prospect of good things to come. Thanks to Tricia MacPherson for the pics.

SUBS
All rates will be increased by £10 per annum for next season. This is the first increase for 3 years for adults, and since time immemorial for Kobras. The new rates (per month, over 10 months) are therefore:

Adults £21.00
Youth £16.00
Social/U14 £9.50
U12 £8.00
U10 £6.50

WARM UP AREA
KHC has been asked by Kinross Astro to consider funding a planned warm up area adjacent to the pitch. The proposal was that the KHC committee should seek the authority of the AGM to take the project through to completion. The proposal is subject to obtaining funding and planning permission. In the event, the meeting decided that it wanted to review and authorise an agreed and costed plan. It was therefore agreed that the KHC committee could proceed with the project, but that an EGM would be required to authorise the spend.

*Please note that this is not an official record of the AGM and the minutes therefore supersede anything in this article.

Busy morning at KAS

It was an early start, but a glorious morning for the some of our Kobras who were doing the hockey leaders course.

We need extra hands on deck to cope with all the small people we have had joining the club (and if any adults are interested in getting involved, do let us know!)

The course coincided neatly with the first "come and try hockey" sessions for parents and partners, so our new coaches had some genuine beginners to try their skills out on, and got a bit of knockabout game as well.

Annual dinner 2018

Friday saw the annual awards night and dinner at Lochleven's larder. A fantastic time was had by all, and considerable amusement was had too, with the gentlemen's second team demonstrating that they are even nimbler on the dance floor than on a hockey pitch, although some cruel people suggested that this is not saying much.

Lists of prizewinners below, plus a few rather grainy photos of the ravers in actions. Congratulations to everyone who won an award. Keep up the good work.

The big match

Lots of excitement among the girls with the Development Squad's first competitive game taking place against Grove on Sunday. (Nothing like a challenging start!)

The match is at KAS at 130pm. If you can make it along to support them, I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Bring pom-poms.

Farmers market fundraising

Thanks to everyone who helped set up and take down the stalls at the farmers' market. In no particular order:

  • James Fenna
  • Ian Fulton
  • Pete Smith
  • Muttley Getley
  • Sue Bell
  • Dave Dumbreck
  • Eric King
  • Nick Leslie
  • Gail Nelson
  • and various Montfords

That's £200 for club coffers, but perhaps more importantly, doing our bit to help the market go ahead

Try hockey?

Kinross Hockey club is going to be offering some "come and try hockey" sessions for men and older boys (14 and over)  - either complete beginners or for those who haven't played for many years. Hockey is sport for life, which you can keep playing into your fifties and beyond, and, it's a lot of fun too.

We'll teach you some basic skills and have a knockabout game or two on Sundays (time TBC, depending on numbers, but roughly in the middle of the day). The aim is to do a few weeks to give you a feel for the game.

We can provide sticks, but you'll need to think about getting/borrowing shinguards and a gumshield. We have a few sets of shinpads we can lend, so if you are stuck, just ask. We're probably not going to be doing anything too aggressive if you don't want to fork out for a gumshield straight away, but this would have to be at your own risk.

If you are interested, complete the form below (contact details should be parent/guardian for juniors) and we'll get back to you.
