Midlands U18s success

Congratulations to David Mac, Cammy and Arthur, who have made it through the final round of selection and will play for Midlands in the U18 interdistrict championships.

For a small club like Kinross, getting three players into the squad is really very impressive.

Club day 2016

It's hard to imagine how the club day could have gone any better: glorious weather,  industrial quantities of home baking, good-humoured hockey and lots of kids trying out the game for the first time. It's also hard to imagine Amy W ever being allowed step down from her role as social convenor.

Pics below.

A late donation

We've just received a late £500 donation to the pitch fund. The money comes courtesy of oil services company the Wood Group, via their charitable giving programme.

As we get near to placing the order for the pitch work, a few more costs are coming to light, so this money is very welcome.

Our thanks to the Wood Group for their support. We will be putting it to good use.

Ladies Circle back at KGV

A couple of weeks back, Kinrossshire Ladies Circle were back at the KGV for a hockey session with the Korinthians. At the same time they also handed over a cheque for £750, the second part of their contribution to the pitch fund, for which many thanks are due.

By all accounts a good time was had by all.

KHC membership: the road to greatness

A year back, we congratulated (star of the Men's 2s) Struan Hepburn on his appointment as head boy at Kinross High. Last week saw the end of his term of office. However, it also saw the appointment of (star of the Ladies 2s) Georgia White as head girl for next year. Kinross Hockey Club membership is clearly where the road to greatness begins.

Congratulations from everyone at the club.

Pitch fund hits its target

We heard last night that Perth & Kinross Council have decided to put aside £86,000 towards the cost of the new pitch. Further funds have been pencilled in as a contingency.

Together with the Kinross HC pitch fund and the sums promised by the Arthur and Margaret Thompson Trust, we are now over our original funding target of £180,000. We are actually going to need somewhat more than this, but steps are being taken to ensure that the (relatively) small gap is bridged.

As ever, nothing is set in stone and there is always scope for things to go pear-shaped. We will have to discuss the process going forward with PKC to give us a better idea of where we stand, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we know something.

In the meantime though, it looks as though we are getting there.

Many thanks to Joe Giacopazzi, Willie Robertson and the other Kinrossshire representatives on PKC for their efforts on our behalf.

The Golden Ball

The Korithians, demonstrating admirable Corinthian spirit, held their awards night in the bar at the KGV yesterday, marking the end of a very successful first season. They now have 15 members and a dozen turn up most weeks, come rain or shine. Strips have been obtained, a first competitive fixture has been held, and plans are afoot for more of the same after the summer.

There were too many prizes handed out last night to list here, but the biggie - the Golden Ball for most improved player - went to Susie Montgomery, the latest in a long list of Montgomerys to grace the KGV pitch.

Congratulations to Susie, and thanks also to Lindsey and Wendy for all their hard work in making the Korinthians such a success.

Korinthians compete!

After a full season of training under the expert tutelage of Lindsey Knight, last night saw a first competitive outing for the Korinthians taking on the old hands of the Ladies 2s (and at least one ringer from the firsts!).

Smartly decked out in their new strips, they certainly looked the part and  anyone expecting a walkover had their ideas swiftly changed, as the Korinthians put up a fierce resistance and some slick passing even offered up a few shooting opportunities too. The L2s were the ultimate victors, but the Korinthians managed to get on the scoresheet too and hit the post as well.

Help from the hockey club

A team from the club were out and about in Kinross on Saturday, helping the Ladies Circle in their support role for an Edinburgh to St Andrews cycle race. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time - with a bit of luck we should get a good contribution to the pitch fund in return.
